Apple Week (Tuesday)

Activities/Crafts:

Apple Book: Cut a red construction paper and newsprint pages into an apple shape. As a group, make a book about apples by having the children each dictate a story for you to record on one of the apple-shaped pages. Let each child illustrate his or her story. Then staple the cover and pages together to make an Apple Book. (Variation: Make a separate book for each child's story.)

Contour Apples: Draw an outline of an apple on heavy paper. Spread with glue. Fill in design with yarn, starting at the outer edge and coiling in towards the center.

Songs/Rhymes:

Look At the Apple (sung to "The Mulberry Bush")

Look at the apple I have found,

So fat and rosy on the ground.

Mother will wash it and

Cut it in two--

Half for me and half for you.

Here We Go Round the Apple Tree (sung to "The Mulberry Bush")

Here we go round the apple tree, the apple tree, the apple tree.

Here we go round the apple tree so early in the morning.

This is the way we plant the seeds...

This is the way the little seeds sprout...

This is the way it grows to a tree...

This is the way the flowers bloom...

This is the way the apples grow...

This is the way the apples are picked...

Here we go round the apple tree.

The Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree, (point up)

Tw little apples smiled at me (close thumb & forefinger of each hand to make an apple)

I shook that tree as hard as I could (grab pretend tree & shake)

Down fell the apples-- (raise hands & let fall)

MMMMM, were they good!

Cooking/Snacks:

Apple Sandwiches: Slice apples horizontally so that a star is formed in the center. Spread a slice with peanut butter and top with a second to form a sandwich.
